Inframax Rally of Waitomo + Repco Rally NZ promo day

The weekend saw both the Inframax Rally of Waitomo and the promotion day for Repco Rally New Zealand. I co-drove for my father in his Suzuki Baleno and also finished off my duties as publicity officer for the rally.

Unfortunately we didn't finish the rally, Dad found a problem with the diff after stage four and then we called it quits after stage five when we lost the speedometer and the limited-slip in the diff during the stage. Because we didn't have the trailer at the midday service in Ohura, Dad attempted to drive the rally car home while Mum and I followed in the ute. We got to about 20km out of Te Kuiti when the gearbox went in the car and we had to tow it back to Rally HQ in Te Kuiti.

This all turned out rather well for me because we got back to Rally HQ with 20 minutes to spare before the first car arrived to go over the finish ramp, so I was able to interview the top drivers for the final press release.

Sunday saw the Rally NZ promotional day, a bit of a fun media day for sponsors, local media and area VIPs. About 20 cars, drivers and teams turned up to give guests a taste of the rallying business as a co-driver. An inside thrill ride.

For me it was a chance to catch up with heaps of different people and was just a good chance to make myself seen and recognised.
